Who pays off
Pays off mean to pay (call) a bet in a final round with a hand that is not known if it is winning or not winning. So at the end of a poker game there is no second place like in other sports, here the second place is the loser. And if in limit poker the second place lose a little amount of money, because the game is played with a limit of betting, in no limit you can lose large sums of money. Many beginners forget about this aspect and they bet money even if they don’t have the best hand. They do this because they cannot lose much money and because they are accustomed to play in limit games. If , for example in limit game they have an AK they will rarely fold with this hand, because this is usually a winner hand. But in no limit, those types of hands can cost your entire stack.

In no limit poker games you can have the following types of hands:
-Hands without value, that cannot beat a bluff. For example your hand is a 3-4 and on the board is a K,6,8,J and a 10.With this hand you can lose everything if you had the courage to bet any money.
-Hands with a middle pair. For example your hand is an A-10 and on the board is a K,10, 6,7,3 then you have a pair of ten with an Ace .With this kind of hand you can win in front of a bluff.
-Top pair is when you have an Ace with a King and on the board it is also a King.
-When you have the luck of a pair of Aces from the first hand.
-A strong hand like a straight
-The biggest hand like a flush
If you understand these types of hands you will realize that each winning hand can bring you a different pot size. If you have hands with small value these can bring you only small pots, because the hands that can beat will not call large bets. It can happen to have an AK and you are tempted to bet. But somebody with a 5,6 can call if on the board is a K, 3,4,9,7. So the chances of winning with a high pair are not always equal. Sometimes you can lose and sometimes you can win. It also can happen to lose with the top pair if on the board are small cards and your opponent hand is only small cards too. It is a bit of a luck here.
